After a disappointing series against the San Francisco Giants in which they were swept, the Fightins’ are going into a series with the Chicago Cubs looking to turn things around. The Phillies have had a pretty average season so far as they currently have a record of 20-23, and they have an opportunity to bolster their position in the National League standings as they take on the team two spots below them in the standings in the Cubs. The Cubs are currently 19-24 and this series will either push to solidify the Fightins’ position in the top half of the NL or create questions as to whether the team can live up to the expectations garnered after last year’s World Series appearance.
While the season is still far from over it would still be very concerning if we were to get swept in two consecutive series by league opponents. On the other hand it be nice to see a dominant performance for the Phillies in this series to give confidence that they are distancing themselves from the bottom half of the league.
