The Philadelphia 76ers lost a disappointing series against the Boston Celtics this weekend and now have to figure how they will move forward starting next season. They have already started making changes as they fired head coach Doc Rivers today, and it’s clear that both the front office and fan base are not satisfied with the results of not making it past the second round for the past several years. So the 76ers find themselves in a situation where they have a few different options for the next direction they can take the team.
The first option is to completely clean house and start a total rebuild. That’s a terrible idea and it’s stupid and nobody would like that. So, let’s not even discuss that option because I would hope they don’t do that.
The second option is that they keep the current roster intact as much as possible try to tweak a few things and hope for the best next year. This of course is more or less what the team has been doing the past couple years and it hasn’t exactly gotten us any further in the playoffs. That being said, this team does have the talent to win a championship so maybe it’ll all just come together next year.
The last option is somewhere in between the other two and includes making drastic changes to the roster in hopes of building a championship team next season. This would probably include not resigning James Harden next year, which is a move I’m not exactly a fan of, but does open the door for the cap space to get another all-star caliber player or a few high quality starters. This plan would of course most likely only happen if James Harden doesn’t return, and it’s also dependent on what kind of free agents are available this off-season.
All of these plans have pros and cons and there’s of course, no guarantee that any of them will lead to success and a championship. I’m sure we’ll soon see what direction they plan on going, and I’m sure their choice in the next head coach will play a large role in the determination of the next step the 76ers organization will take.
Here’s hoping it all works out for the best.
Let’s Go Sixers!!!!
