Last night Joel Embiid went off with a fantastic performance in a pivotal game against the Boston Celtics. He scored 52 points and made 20 of his 25 field goals and completely dominated the game from start to finish.
This performance encapsulates the incredible season that Embiid has been able to put together this year. He is currently the league leader in points with 33.3 a game, as well as, 7th in rebounds with 10.2. Averaging over 33 points and 10 rebounds a game is a tremendous feat and is precisely what you would expect from the league MVP. However, it is not just Embiid’s dominance on the court that makes him a contender for the MVP (although that is a major factor). Just as important as his mind blowing stats is the fact that he has led the 76ers to the #3 seed in the Eastern Conference, and makes Philadelphia a serious NBA Title contender.
Joel will have some serious competition for the award in Denver’s Nikola Jokic and the Buck’s Giannis Antetokounmpo, both of which have one the award twice. However, while these players have had great success this season in their own right, their success on the court isn’t at the level of Joel Embiid. In addition to that, all three of their team are in comparable positions as far as the playoffs are concerned. Therefore the difference between the three are the stats which are clearly in the favor of Mr. Embiid, which makes him this year’s most obvious choice for the league MVP.
