It was the University of California’s board of regents approved UCLA’s move to the Big 10 which had been announced earlier this week. This comes as a surprise to anybody who hasn’t really thought about it. Considering the Pac 12 is the only Power 5 conference without a TV deal and the Big 10 made about 7 billion dollars, 0 dollars is a significantly lower amount of money than 7 billion dollars. So it’s pretty easy to see the reason why they would want to switch conferences.
The money was a big factor for both schools involved, but according to USC Head Football Coach Lincoln Riley there was another reason for why they wanted to move to the Big 10 in particular. He said quote, “Apparently in the Big 10 you can make the f**kin playoffs even if you don’t make the conference championship game, which is b******t by the way, so we definitely want in on that.”After that he just went on swearing about they should have made the playoffs over Ohio State, but I think we can all see where he’s coming from.
Now the benefits for UCLA, USC, and the Big Ten are obvious. The Big 10 gets two big market teams that are in the top of their conference. However, this puts the Pac-12 up a creek to say the least. While Deion Sanders arrival at Colorado is a boost, they are loosing a big chunk of their best talent in UCLA and USC the Pac-12 might as well be the Mountain West. At least they’re doing better than the ACC they didn’t lose any teams, they just don’t really have any good football teams. At least I don’t think they do I haven’t seen an ACC game all year, they might not even have any football teams anymore.
