So last night the Eagles received their first loss from the team in the NFL I dislike the most and consistently talk the most trash about. So overall not my favorite moment of the season so far. However this begs the question of should we start panicking or not. On social media I saw people hit the panic button as early as halftime, but I don’t exactly agree with that. That being said there were some red flags in this game such as poor run defense (a problem that was made more prevalent due to the absence of Jordan Davis), and and offense that was hardly able to score after the first quarter among other issues. Now the bigger questions are how many of these problems can be attributed to a one off occurrence and how many are issues that will need to be addressed as the season progresses.
As far as the offensive struggles I don’t see them as a cause for concern at the moment, other than of course losing one of our best weapons in Dallas Goedert to injury. While the problems on offense last night could be broken down in more detail I think overall it can be chalked up an off night considering this has been one of the most effective and highest scoring offenses in the league up to this point in the season. If the offense continues to struggle in the coming weeks then we can revisit the issues but for now I’ll say it’s not something we need to worry about.
On the other hand the issues on defense have been consistent this season in terms of defending the run, and as I mentioned earlier the injury of Jordan Davis isn’t going to help the situation. Of course getting Davis back will help the defense against the run, but it’s not going to solve the problem entirely. One possible solution that’s been floated around is throwing rookie linebacker Nakobe Dean into the starting lineup and that could be true but if that is the case then why hasn’t the coaching staff taken that course of action yet already. Which leads me to the next issue which is the play calling for the defense, the most blatant example of this was the debacle which was the end of the first half.
Overall there was some issues that caught up the Eagles last night, and there were some situations that just didn’t go their way. At the end of the day we’re still 8-1 so we are still in a good position this season. So is the final verdict panic? No, of course not, what kind of dork panics over a football team that they’re not even on losing.
