Before this season I thought that the Eagles were setup for a relatively successful season. A respectable record of about 10-7 give or take a few wins and a first or at best second round exit from the playoffs. The only way I expected they could do any better is if Jalen Hurts took his game to the next level, and boy did he ever.
Anyone who has watched Jalen play can’t help but be impressed by the way he has been throwing the ball. Almost every pass looks like it’s laser guided right into his receivers’ hands, his accuracy and timing look to be on par or better than any other passer in the league right now.
Of course, that’s just the eyeball test you only have to watch him throw the ball to see that his skills are top notch. However you can’t claim that someone is the best quarterback in the world just because their passes look good. So what empirical evidence is there to support this claim? Well other than the Eagles league best 8-0 record Jalen is also number two in the league for passer rating, a statistic that best quantifies how efficient a particular quarterback plays. He also has 18 TDs in contrast to only having two interceptions almost halfway through the season. All of this is without mentioning his tremendous running ability.
I’ll admit is passing yard and touchdown totals may not be quite as impressive as other top quarterbacks such as Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, but I don’t believe that tells the full story. The Chiefs and Bills NEED those guys to throw the ball like that while the Eagles have a lot more options on offense as far as running the ball. So to sum it up Jalen Hurts is leading the league’s best team while also being one of the most efficient, effective, and accurate passers in the league. So if the question is whether or not Jalen Hurts is the best quarterback in the NFL my answer would have to be a resounding YES, probably.
